The new label will focus on signing artists in the Greater China region.
The label was launched to expand the company’s presence across the region and invest in looking to broaden commercial opportunities across streaming, gaming, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, NFTs and the Metaverse, says RCA Greater China.
Its core team will be based in Shanghai.
RCA Greater China will focus on developing domestic A&R and local-language artists in the region, with its own dedicated artist roster.
The label also plans to make key hires spanning A&R, Web 3.0, data analytics, digital marketing, digital licensing, gaming, talent development and more.
The launch coincides with RCA Greater China signing rapper Jackson Wang and Taiwanese pop star A-Lin to the label, two of the biggest selling artists in the region.
Jackson Wang is a singer, songwriter, record producer, director, designer and a member of KPOP group GOT7, which debuted in 2014.
Wang is also the first Chinese solo act to debut on the Mediabase US Top 40 Radio Chart, says RCA.
RCA Greater China released the single Jackson Wang and will continue to distribute Wang’s Chinese album.
A-Lin, meanwhile, is a five-time Golden Melody Awards nominee – an award given by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture – and seven-time winner of the KKBOX Music Awards.
Heading up the label is Kevin Foo, who has been appointed Managing Director of the new label, reporting to CEO of Sony Music Greater China, Andrew Chan.
Foo will retain his role overseeing Sony Music Entertainment Taiwan’s operations, working across Shanghai, Taipei, and Singapore.
Foo has over 20 years’ experience in the music, entertainment, and talent management industries, and helped to launch the careers of several Asian artists, including Linying, Charlie Lim and The Steve McQueens.
He also played a prominent role in the success of stars including Eric Chou, Lay Zhang, Jolin Tsai and Weibird, says RCA.
